A Bluetooth keyboard greatly enhances your typing experience on your tablet, but sometimes the Bluetooth connection between the two devices is lost. That can quickly become a nuisance. Even though Bluetooth has been around since 1999, the technology can still be unreliable. There are several common reasons why this could happen:
Crowded Network
Bluetooth uses the 2.4Ghz frequency band. This is the same frequency most wireless devices use from baby monitors to smart home technology. Many other things are on this frequency like CFL light bulbs, microwaves, radio-controlled toys, the list goes on and on. The biggest issue is when several devices are competing along the same bandwidth. Because Bluetooth is generally slower than WiFi it will suffer disconnections and interruptions if several other devices are nearby.
Low Battery
Your keyboard is designed to hold a charge for many months if not a year before it needs to be charged again (based on normal usage of an hour a day, refer to your owner's manual). However, if the battery in your keyboard is running low, a disconnection can happen. Simply recharge your keyboard's battery and reconnect.
Interference
You may be getting interference from another Bluetooth device such as a wireless speaker or earbuds. Many keyboards have the ability to connect to more than one tablet and tablets are designed to connect to more than one Bluetooth device but if several devices are connected, interference may occur and a disconnection may happen. Simply turn off or remove other Bluetooth devices and/or tablets from the area and reconnect.
Too Many Apps
If you have too many apps running in the background of your tablet, close some of those out. Certain apps can cause interference with the Bluetooth connection.
If you lose the Bluetooth connection from your keyboard, please follow these steps:
- Check the current version of your iOS on your Apple® tablet.
- If your iOS version is less than 9.1, it must be upgraded.
- Before you upgrade your iOS, you will need to "forget your device" using the following steps
- On your tablet, go to 'Settings'.
- Select 'Bluetooth'.
- Locate your ZAGG keyboard in the list.
- Select 'forget this device'
4. After upgrading to iOS 9.1 or higher, you will need to pair your ZAGG keyboard to your tablet.
